Intelink Baseline Standards
Definition of a Server · Minimum requirements · Virtual Server · Physical Server


Definition of a Server

Servers can exist as either a "Virtual Server" or a "Physical Server". A physical server is any platform running the HTTPD server daemon. Any platform running multiple HTTPD daemons off of separate ports are viewed as separate machines. A virtual server is any organization or division within an organization hosting a homepage, whether that homepage is on a separate platform or on a physical server with other homepages.

Physical Servers hosting multiple virtual servers should use subdirectories for each virtual server.


Notice

The following defines the MINIMUM requirements for an Intelink server configuration in order to be listed in the Intelink Central Directories.


Virtual Servers

  1. A homepage with:
    1. Organizational based links
    2. POC Information
    3. A link to the Intelink Central Home Page or one of its directory pages (Icons or Text). We also recommend organizations also link to their parent organization primary homepage
    4. Intelink Security Banner
  2. Each server must have a valid DNS address.
  3. POC information must be updated within 24 hours of being added to the Intelink Server Directory
  4. An entry in Wer'zit announcing the new homepage. Wer'zit helps members of the Intelligence community find your new site and is used to automatically generate announcements on the ISMC What's New Page.
  5. Once you fulfill the above requirements, contact the ISMC if you wish your site placed on the ISMC Server Directories.

Physical Servers

Physical Servers must fulfill same requirements as a virtual server and additionally must comply with the following:
  1. HTTP/1.0 Compliant Server daemon (Non-commercial software* must be obtained from the software archive). The HTTP server should not have any unresolved CERT advisories or unpatched security holes.
  2. Wusage 5.0* server statistics package configured to run weekly using the ISMC configuration parameters.
  3. Domain Name Service (DNS)* must be implemented.
  4. Download/install newstuff script* (UNIX Systems Only).
  5. Create an applicable robots.txt file
  6. In addition to software requirements, the server must be available on a 7x24 hr basis.

*Software must be obtained from the software archive.

Intelink Management Office Requirements for Intelink Servers

Establish a Site Intelink Information Manager

Comply with Intelink Metadata Standards and the guidelines listed under METADATA STANDARDS in the Report on the Intelink-S Task Force Meeting.

Follow guidelines in the Intelink Product Construction Kit.

Incorporate the security and other standards listed under HOME PAGE/PRODUCTSTANDARDS in the Report on the Intelink-S Task Force Meeting.
